Dimensions:   Approx 6 Inches wide.
Condition:      Perfect condition.

                      Minor wear.  

 

DESCRIPTION

 

   Here is a beautfiul Chinese Armorial plate. it bears the monogram of Pieter van der WEERT (1733-1784) and Geertrui Buis (1734-1798) of Utrecht.

Pieter van der Weert joined the Dutch East India Company (VOC) and travelled to the Far East at least seven times. He probably ordered this service in 1777 the same time as his ship's master Wilhem Koelbier of the VOC 'Kanaan'. he had five children. His son Peter rose to the postion of Secretary of the East Indian Government and Extra ordinary Councillor of the Indes from 1793-1795.  The design of both services almost identical. In 1784 as master of 'Bredenhof' leaving Bataiva, he was shipwrecked and Pieter never came home.
