Date: Circa 1890. Josef M Mayer Munich retailers mark.
Dimensions: Approx 9 Inches Wide.
Condition: Excellent condition.
A superb and rare porcelain plate with the arms of the city of VERSAILLES. Probably made for banquets at the City Hall or "Hotel de Ville".Beautiful and unusual piece. Lovely gold work. Don't miss this wonderful example from the Versailles world heritage site.
The plate has Japanese decoration on European porcelain. The mark translates as " Dai Nichi Hon, Yoko Hama, Yama (or Zan?) Ro Sei". Great Japan, Yokohama. ?? Make. Unmistakeable Japanese decoration and hand painting. The method of holding the brush is quite different; strokes are made with a flick of the wrist. Usually the dragons are chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom, here the monogram has been cleverly incorporated in the design. Don't miss this beautiful rare plate! . You could not wish for a more perfect design. Vittorio Emanuele Re Italia Di' Savoy.
