Chinese Porcelain Armorial Plate FRENCH family Ireland PORTUGUESE
An unusual Chinese porcelain armorial plate. late Qianlong / Jiaqing period.
Beautifully painted with a central armorial, with crest.
Probably made for the FRENCH family of Cuskinny, Co. Cork,Ireland.
According to Howard vol II page 178, Nuno de Castro, in his Portuguese Armorial book
lists it as made for Dominic Alexis French, a merchant and banker, who emigrated to Lisbon, Portugal.
His daughter, Mary Barbera French, married her cousin, James Charles Duff in 1805.
Motto is 'Rather death before dishonour"

Some parts of the leaf decoration were silvered, now they
have oxidised black.
Excellent condition, some gold wear, small, well restored crack at 12 'o'clock.
