A finely painted Copeland armorial plate,
made for General Sir Thomas Monteath Douglas.
 
During his long campaigns in India, Nepal and Afghanistan he was awarded
many medals. He inherited the arms of the Douglas family along with an estate  after the death of the Duchess of Douglas in 1851.
He lived at Stonybyres Castle and was buried in a Byzantine inspired mausoleum
guarded by two lifesize angels and a pair os sleeping lions.
