MORE DETAILS

Alexander, nephew of TSAR ALEXANDER II of Russia was the first Prince (Knyaz) of modern Bulgaria. He had much charm, amiability and competence as a soldier. His brother Prince Louis, married Princess Victoria of Hesse. Their children included Queen Louise of Sweden , Earl Mountbatten of Burma and Princess Alice, mother to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The closest armorial to the plate is embossed on the Bulgarian Tarnovo Constitution of  1879.

PROVENANCE & REFERENCES

The decoration pays homage to the great Sevres services of the 18th Century, the CAMEO SERVICE made for Catherine the Great of Russia  and bears close similarity in gilding and reserves to the Sevres COMTE D'ARANDA armorial SERVICE and HOPE of Craigall Sevres service.
