Pair Meissen Armorial Plates ROYAL MONOGRAM QUEEN MARIE ROMANIA ?

A superb pair of Meissen porcelain plates. Reticulated pierced basket work border with rococo reserves.

Central reserve with crowned "M". Gilded monogram and highlights.

Measure approx. 9 Inches wide. Late 19th to early 20thC. Perhaps Queen Marie of Romania (1875-1938).

 

Her parents were Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (later Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha) and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Baptised in the Chapel at Windsor Castle, she was known as Marie of Edinburgh and married Crown Prince Ferdinand of Romania in 1892.  Her first three children grew up to be Carol II, King of Romania, Elisabeth, Queen of the Hellenes & Maria, Queen of Yugoslavia.
