Pair Worcester Armorial Plates Flight Barr SYKES ?
Superp pair of Worcester armorial crest plates, with salmon and 'Vermicelli' gilding.
Perfect condition, minor wear.
Measure approx 8 Inches wide. The motto come from the Odes of Horace, 'Sperat Infestis Metuit Secundis'.

A seal exists, with this same motto, a SYKES arms, 'argent, a chevron sable between three sykes'.
Impaled with probably 'argent, a bar gules between three choughs' or similar birds.
Crest is 'A demi-Triton issuant from flags or reeds blowing a shell and wreathed about the temples with like flags or reeds, all ppr'.
The SYKES family were wool merchants who grew to be wealthly landowners in Yorkshire.
SLEDOMRE Hall was their priciple residence.
