Pr CHINESE ARMORIAL CHARGERS plates WILLES Imp BREWSTER

A stunning pair of Chinese armorial chargers. measuring 12.5 Inches or 32cm across. These were made for Lord Chief Justice Sir John Willes (1685-1761). He built ASTROP PARK in Brackley, Northampton in about 1740. He married Margaret Brewster. The armorial matches an engraving in the British Museum.

Excellent condition. One virtually perfect condition. The other with fine rim hair crack at 7 'o'clock.

A Reverend M Willes, enalrged the property in about 1805 and probably ordered English porcelain supplements to the service. Designs for the two new wings can be seen in the Sir John Soane Museum, London. (They were later demolished).
